Your client asks for aerials, or a live stream, or a build record, and you do not have the licence, the gear or the person. So you refer it out, and you spend the next year wondering whether they will come back. You built that relationship over years of early starts and late calls. Handing it to a stranger for one job is a bad trade, and you know it.
This is the other way of doing it. You quote the work, you keep the client, and I turn up as your crew. The job goes out under your name. I do not contact your client outside the shoot, I do not post the work, and nothing goes on my reel without you saying yes first. You expand what your business can offer without handing anyone the relationship you built.
I run a production company of my own, which is exactly why I am careful about this. I know what it costs to lose a client to a contractor, so I do not do it.

A camera feed dies because someone unplugged it to run a vacuum cleaner. A wireless link drops in the one minute everybody was told to tune in for. It is never if, it is when. What you are hiring is what happens in the ten seconds after that, and whether your client ever finds out.
